Five Ways to Keep Your Cool

When It's HOT!

Oh my! Did you survive this weekend? We're experiencing a WORLDWIDE heatwave! I don't know about you, but discomfort makes me irritable. Below are five things I do to keep my cool when it's blazing hot (or cold, or I don't feel well, or experiencing any other kind of irritation).

  1. Find something, anything for which to be grateful. I know at this point, gratitude seems a bit cliche but staying grateful does shift your mindset for the better.
  2. Eat something healthy. Yes, the instinct is to reach for junk food, nice, comforting junk food but these foods can actually make our mood worse by spiking blood sugar and guilt.
  3. Pause. Come to your practice. Do some asana, some meditation. Take a breath. It's basically hitting the reset button.
  4. Watch, read or listen to something mindless. Let yourself escape reality for a few hours. My trick is to scroll down to the children's and family movies on any streaming service and allow myself to be absorbed in an easy to follow, no thought required story.
  5. Talk to or spend time with folks that you love. My best friends are always good for a deep, rich belly laugh -- without fail! Reach out to your support system. You'll be glad you did.

I hope that you'll find something useful on this list. Feel free to share with me what you do to keep your cool when the situation is literally and figuratively HOT!

Come practice with me this week! Tuesday and Thursday at 9:00 AM ET. Here's the registration link: https://www.toembodyyoga.com/offerings

And replays are available. They are uncut! You get to see me forget what I was going to say and occasionally fall out of poses that I've practiced for over a decade. Check out the latest class "Thighs" and the ever popular "The Core." This is the link for the replays: https://www.toembodyyoga.com/online_store

Finally, I will be subbing a virtual class for a friend beginning this Wednesday at 10:00 AM. It is a gentle yoga class and it's online! I will send registration details in a separate email if anyone should be interested in joining.

Om Shanti Om,

Julie
