Renewal

Let's acknowledge that we're living in strange and troubling times. If you've practiced with me for a while now, then you know that I'm not into unicorns, rainbows and gumdrops yoga. And the reason is simple: you can not change what you pretend does not exist.

The Bhagavad Gita teaches us that we are called to follow Dharma, duty, and that the practice of yoga is one of action not passivity. Let us invite the turning of Winter into Spring to lead us to the renewing of our commitment to make this world a more compassionate, empathetic and loving place for all beings. Here is how I'm celebrating Spring and recommitting to my mission:

  1. Put the philosophy of Ubuntu into practice and share it with the kula. Ubuntu is a South African philosophy that reminds us that I only am because you are. It teaches us to walk in another's shoes to not only know about their journey but to also feel and be their journey. It extends out from humanity and touches all beings.
  2. Pick up litter!! No, it isn't grand and philosophical but it is practical and unfortunately necessary. By picking up litter (with my grabber) it shows respect for my neighbors both human and non, it preserves our planet and makes things far more beautiful.
  3. Expand my offerings to bring more folks to the practice of yoga. I truly believe that by embracing the fullness of this tradition we can solve, or at the very least move towards solving, many of our modern problems whether they be personal or global.

What habits are you going to renew this Spring and what are you going to release to allow space for those new habits to flourish? I hope that one thing that you'll return to is your yoga practice if you've allowed it to slip.
