The Divine Feminine

In honor of Mother's Day in the U.S. next Sunday, I have declared May the month of the Divine Feminine. Unlike Women's History month (March) the aspect of the feminine is inside of everyone regardless of gender. The feminine is that side of us that nurtures and protects: it is the motion of power.

Early in my yoga career, I was exposed to Tantra which is an Eastern philosophy that treats the masculine and feminine as equals (fancy that!) that are both necessary forces to keep the universe in motion. The aspects are most popularly depicted as Shiva (masculine) and Shakti (feminine).

One way to think about how their powers combine is through these analogies:

Shiva is the sun and Shakti is the rays.

Shiva is the rain and Shakti is the wet.

Shiva is the fire and Shakti is the heat.

Shiva is the air and Shakti is the wind.

Shiva is Love and Shakti is Love's expression.

This month, our theme will explore the creative and sustaining powers of the Divine Feminine through different traditions. I hope that you join me and I hope to make it fascinating and enlightening.

And now a note about the photo above. I wanted to share something of me out in nature as this is where I most feel the Divine Feminine presence. Also, this was taken by a dear friend during a girl's trip where we celebrated femininity and our life long bond as women on this planet finding the divine in each other.

Come journey with me on Monday at 12:30 and Thursday at 9:00 AM ET. Register here: https://www.toembodyyoga.com/offerings

Can't join live? No worries you can catch replays (as far back as November) here: https://www.toembodyyoga.com/online_store

Om Shanti Om,

Julie
