The Richness of Yoga

A friend once asked what I do in my free time, and true to my yoga-nerd form, I said, " I study yoga." He laughed not understanding that yoga is far more than the poses that we perform on the mat. The poses (asana) are great and take years of dedication and hard work to express fully, but they are merely the tip of the iceberg in the study of yoga.

One of the things I enjoy studying are the myths that invite us to more fully understand ourselves and our world and that's how I first met Brahma, pictured above. Brahma is one of the three main gods that permeate Hindu mythology. He is credited with being the Creator and works along side Vishnu and Shiva. He has four faces but since I wasn't able to hover above the statue, I was only able to capture three!

This week, we will explore other aspects of yoga, along with asana, to get the greatest benefit from this tradition. Some of the things that we will practice include:

  1. Mudra the seals that are the physical forms of mantra.
  2. Mantra, in particular OM.
  3. Pranayama the deeper connection with breath.
  4. Meditation to get in touch with our inner landscape.
  5. Myths to connect to the rich, long history of the practice.

I hope that you join me as we deepen our practice. We meet live on Monday at 12:30 PM and Thursday at 9:00 AM with replays available 24 hours (more or less) after class. Please register at https://www.toembodyyoga.com/offerings and for replays of these and 18 other classes please go to https://www.toembodyyoga.com/online_store

As always, pay what you like for both the live class and any replay. Please note, replays expire 3 days after purchase.

See you soon, and stay warm!

Julie
